Patwardhan High School

For the people of Ratnagiri, PATWARDHAN HIGH SCHOOL is a well known educational Institution. This institution has been contributing significantly to the cause of education in Ratnagiri and surrounding area. In the recent ranking of the educational institutions conducted by R-ZAAC, this institution has been ranked in the highest category of A+.

In the year 1902, shri Keshvrao Patwardhan, together with some of his relatives and well- wishers, established an educational institution, then named as PATWARDHAN MIDDLE SCHOOL. Starting with only a handful of students, due to the high standards of education, personal attention and discipline, this institution was well received by students and parents alike and was on a growth path. Conducting the classes at various rented places initially, the school moved into a specious permanent location where the school and its other institutions are now located. During these years, the school was re-named as PATWARDHAN HIGH SCHOOL.

Patwardhan High school conducted classes from 5th to 11th (old SSC) standards. Subsequently, realizing the needs, the Mandal added new educational institutions and now we have educational facilities from the Play School to Junior College. We also have established certain add-on facilities, such Computer Education for our students from the 3ed to 10th standards.

Shri Keshavrao Patwardhan was actively associated with the school, right from its inspection till his demise in 1936. After his demise, his well-educated and trained sons, shri  Shankarrao and Achyutrao Patwardhan ably carried on with his mission, till their retirement. Both put in untiring efforts in the growth of the school and in achieving respect and high standing for the school.  Due to the dedicated efforts, personal attention, self-less vision of this duo and exemplary discipline in the school and the whole-hearted support of their team of teachers, Patwardhan High School has been a well known and highly respected educational institution in Kokan area and this attracted more and more students to this school.

Till 1951 Patwardhan High School was run as a proprietary school. The proprietors were finding it extremely difficult, financially in particular, and also due to governmental requirements for aided schools, to run the institute as a proprietary institution. The proprietors therefore decided to hand over the school to a trust created for this purpose, involving respectable and honorable persons from Ratanagiri. Thus a Trust- BHARAT SHIKSHAN MANDAL was formed and registered with the Charity Commissioner.
Bharat Shikshan Mandal added new educational institutions, like Primary School, Balwadi (KG), Play School, Junior Colleges, etc., over the period of time.

In the journey so far, the school has achieved good results at the SSC and HSC exams. These results for the last three years are as follows:

For enlargement of educational activities, and as a back-up for the secondary school and to meet the demands from parents, we started primary school in the year1987. A generous donation from shri Suhasrao Agashe, in the memory of his father, helped immensely in the construction of the school building. Our Primary school is one of the leading schools for primary education in Ratnagiri. The demand for seats is increasing year by year and to cater to this, we will have to add new divisions by constructing additional classrooms and create necessary infrastructure. In the year 2014-15, the Primary school has 661 students on its rolls.

In response to consistently increasing demand of parents to provide pre-primary (KG) facility, Mandal decided to start pre-primary classes from 1987. Generous donations from shri Ramvallabhji Biyani, in the memory of his mother, provide necessary impetus to star this school. We have 260 students on rolls of the pre-primary school in the year 2014-15.
